In July 2007, after leaving KFDI, Dan Tooker and his Morning show team were nominated for Radio Personality of the Year at the CMAs. This marked a historic moment as they were the first show to win the award without being affiliated with a radio station.

In November, Dan accepted the award in a characteristically unconventional manner. Reflecting on the experience, Tooker said, "We weren't sure how the artists and our peers would react. Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. We were a tight-knit team, and only the three of us knew the effort we put in to make it happen. It was pretty cool to be known as the guys who were making history."

While the CMA records officially listed their win as being affiliated with KFDI, Tooker, Jon Watkins, and Colby Erickson agreed that it was a fitting tribute to their time there.
